Aphrodite By Madi Sky - Impact

SUSTAINABILITY / FUTURE

Aphrodite By Madi Sky is sustainable, ethical and Australian made. Each piece is sourced with natural, deadstock fabric while being hand sewn by the designer and made in a conscious way.

We only source materials that can fit into a closed loop life cycle. We use fabrics in which the fibres are compostable as it is our ambition to one day create a zero waste, plastic free, 100% closed loop company.

We make conscious efforts to work towards B corp, and creating zero waste using renewable energies.

Our motto “nothing left but tape” ensures each piece is either 90%-100% compostable at end of use. The only part of the garments that one day won’t be able to decompose are our zippers. Although we source authentic YKK zips, there is currently nothing on the market for compostable zippers.

We re-use/recycle any unavoidable plastics as well as any fabric scraps that we cannot re-use ourselves is sent to an Australian run textile regeneration company.

100% Cotton, Origin: Deadstock

Cotton takes anywhere from 1-5 weeks to breakdown completely when composted.

Although cotton uses a lot of water and is one of the least natural sustainable fibres, we use deadstock fabric to eliminate the impact of the use of virgin materials. This uses as much of the products that have already been created, saving quality fabric from premature landfill. If we can educate consumers we can continue to recycle textiles and compost where possible to eliminate our carbon footprint.

90% Linen 10% Cotton, Origin: Deadstock

Cotton takes anywhere from 1-5 weeks to breakdown completely when composted.

Linen which is farmed from flax seeds can take as little as 2 weeks to compost in the right conditions.

Linen is a favourite fabric here at Aphrodite due to the amount of the plant that is used. It is one of the oldest fibres used in the fashion industry. Even the Ancient Greeks favoured linen. It keeps you cool in the heat and warm in the cold and also has antibacterial properties.

100% Cotton, Linen, Origin: Deadstock

At Aphrodite we strive to design with the future in mind.

Creating designs that don’t need zippers is a priority when possible.

Our vision is to create more zero waste designs.

Our “Daughter of Athena” skirt is not only 100% compostable, it is over 90% zero waste.

Our smaller scrap fabrics we are able to compost ourselves and our larger scraps are sent to a textile recycling company in Melbourne, Australia.
